Yes, that headline pretty much says it all, but yes, there is an unseen Karate Kid rehearsal movie online that is available to watch on YouTube for free.
Karate Kid rehearsal movie online for all to see!
Legendary filmmaker John G. Avidsen, who directed the original movie The Karate Kid back in the 1980s, sadly passed away in June of this year. He was also the man behind the first Rocky movie, directing an Academy Award nominated screenplay from an unknown actor named Sylvester Stallone. He would go on to direct Rocky V in the 90s, but it was The Karate Kid and its two sequels which captured the imagination of a generation, even though it kinda rehashes the Rocky format a little.
The Karate Kid was released in 1984, a movie that was remade very successfully a few years back with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, but the original still very much holds up to this day. In that past few days, we’ve heard news that the original characters from that movie, played by Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, will return for a new Karate Kid TV series, a half-hour scripted comedy named Cobra Kai, set thirty years after the events of the first movie – so you could say that audiences, and indeed Hollywood, still has the passion for more Karate Kid-themed content.
I for one am in that camp. The Karate Kid was one of the very first live-action movies I saw in a cinema, and the nostalgia factor is huge in our house, so it was a highlight of the week to find this footage online.
Posted by Avidsen on YouTube shortly before his death, this Karate Kid rehearsal movies is on the streaming platform in its entirety. The video footage was shot by Avidsen and his team prior to shooting the actual movie back in the early 1980s, and is quite a thing to watch – if you’re a fan. There are a total of 15 videos in the playlist, which you can view in the player below from the very beginning.
As film history and nostalgia goes, this is a must.
