After conquering the Star Wars universe with Rogue One late last year, Riz Ahmed is looking to flex his superhero muscles by joining Tom Hardy in the forthcoming Venom movie. The Spider-Man spin-off is about to jump into production over at Sony Pictures and Hardy has already signed on the dotted line to play the title character. More on the Riz Ahmed Venom news below.
Riz Ahmed Venom news: Rogue One actor to make superhero debut
Variety report the news of Ahmed’s potential casting, but sources haven’t revealed as to whom he will play. The word on the street is that he could play the character of Carnage in the film, though previous reports have denied that the character is even in the film.
The same sources do report however, that Ahmed is down to play a very popular Marvel character, but they left it at that and added no more.
Scott Rosenberg (Pain & Gain, Jumanji) & Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2)
are writing the screenplay for the Venom movie, while Zombieland helmer Rueben Fleischer is directing.

Despite the success of Spider-Man: Homecoming this year, the Venom movie will reportedly be a stand-alone movie and not connect to that movie’s universe in any way.
Production on Venom will kick off in September with a release date set for October 5th, 2018. Amy Pascal. Palak Patel and Eric Fineman are overseeing the project for Columbia Pictures.
Ahmed has appeared in a variety of roles in the past couple of years, including some high-profile TV parts, which include the HBO hit The Night Of and Netflix’s The OA. He will next be seen one the big-screen in controversial drama Una opposite Rooney Mara and his Rogue One: A Star Wars Story co-star Ben Mendelsohn.
