Hot off the heels of yesterdays bombshell that Warner Bros are developing a ‘Joker’ origin movie, more plans for the clown prince of crime have been revealed. The upcoming origin story is planned as the start of a new series of standalone DC adaptations. Now, it appears that plans are also in motion for the current iteration of the character played by Jared Leto.
Leto and Margot Robbie are reportedly both on board for Suicide Squad 2 and Joker and Harley Quinn, the former is which is said to be a top priority for the studio. Now, Warner’s have moved forward with the spin-off, as Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love) have entered final negotiations to write and direct the film.
Joker and Harley Quinn is said to be ‘an insane and twisted love story’, also described as ‘When Harry Met Sally on benzedrine’. Hopefully the film will explore the origin of their disturbing relationship, in a much more detailed manner than the flashback sequences seen in Suicide Squad. It will also be interesting to see whether Batman himself has a role. It would be strange to see the caped crusader completely absent from the proceedings. But, with Ben Affleck forever rumoured to be leaving the role, that may be wishful thinking for now.
