Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ Is Definitely Part Of The DCEU

There’s been a little confusion this week over the Warner Bros/ DC title The Batman, what with the two Joker movies currently in development – one being the Joker and Harley Quinn movie which will fit into be cannon to the current series, and another origin story from director Todd Phillips which will be a separate stand-alone. There was then some news that The Batman would be a self-contained story and ‘not part of the current universe’, which has since been debunked.

Matt Reeves, who will direct The Batman, has clarified it even further via Twitter.

“Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe. Batman will be BATMAN. In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman… not about the others in the Universe. That it wouldn’t be filled with cameos servicing other stories – that it would be a BATMAN story.”

The film is currently being written by Reeves, and production should be underway in 2018 with Ben Affleck part of the movie as the lead of Batman/ Bruce Wayne.

We’ll keep you up to date with proceedings as we move closer to that all-important production start date.

Ben Affleck’s Batman will next be seen in the upcoming Justice League, which releases this November.
