Colin Trevorrow Not Directing Star Wars Episode IX

Colin Trevorrow will not direct Star Wars: Episode IX. The news was announced late Tuesday officially by Lucasfilm that Jurassic World and The Book Of Henry helmer has officially stepped away from the project.

The statement from Lucasfilm read: “Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”

Obviously, thoughts are already turning to who will fill his shoes on the project, which was well into development over at Lucasfilm. Deadline followed up the story by stating that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson may be at the top of the list of potential directors to replace Trevorrow. They state, ‘Insiders said that nothing is done yet, but that prospect is certainly in the air right now.’

Johnson is about to finish up work on Episode VIII ready for its December 15th bow. Episode IX is scheduled for a May 24, 2019 release, so work has to start pretty quickly in terms of shooting – possibly during the early part of next year.

We’ll obviously keep you posted.
