What Would It Take For William Shatner To Return To ‘Star Trek’?

Star Trek is currently going through a bit of a resurgence at the moment. There’s the current movie series, which was jump-started by J.J. Abrams all of the ways back in 2009, and now Netflix and CBS have the new TV series airing, Star Trek Discovery. The late, great Leonard Nimoy appeared in the movie series, reprising the role of Spock, but so far the original Captain Kirk, William Shatner, has so far not come back to reprise his iconic role. Well, the actor has recently been speaking out. More on a potential William Shatner Star Trek return below.

What Would It Take For A William Shatner Star Trek Return?

Shatner said the following in a recent interview.

“[It would take] a great deal of money,” he joked to IGN. “I don’t know what you’d do with a character who appeared 50, now 51 years ago. You know, I am 51 years older, with all the exigencies of age.”

The actor went on:

“Are there stories to tell about an ageing guy?” he asked.

He added: “What would Captain Kirk be like 50 years later, with the sagacity of mind, and yet the body doesn’t do what he wants it to do? I mean, it’s an interesting story.”

Well, we would welcome a return for Kirk with open arms, be it on TV or in the new movies, but obviously, it would have to be right, so we absolutely agree with Shatner on this.

We’re guessing that ‘Discovery’ is the perfect option, considering that it is set just ten years after the original series, rather than the parallel universe that the current movie trilogy occupies.

Star Trek Discovery is currently airing on CBS Stateside, and in weekly installments on Netflix in the UK and other territories.
