‘Young Guns’, ‘Major League’ & ‘Ace Ventura’ Reboots All On The Way

We’re getting word from the trade papers that plans to develop reboots for Young Guns, Major League and Ace Ventura are well underway at the rebranded Morgan Creek company, Morgan Creek Entertainment Group. According to Deadline, the company is making a big push across television, features and digital, and is keen to revive brands from their extensive back-catalogue, the aforementioned all fall within. The trade blog also mentions that there are also discussions with a showrunner for a Dead Ringers series reboot.

Deadline reports that MCEG president David Robinson said that the Ace Ventura project will be “a mainstream theatrical production relaunch,” and very much not to a straight remake but a new film in the spirit of the original, “Because it’s episodic in nature, about a pet detective, it also lends itself to a traditional single-camera series franchise.” So, to TV it goes then?

The Young Guns reboot is apparently looking in the direction of up-and-coming actors to fill the roles, very much like the original, which of course featured future stars Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Charlie Sheen, Dermot Mulroney and Casey Siemaszko, while also securing veterans like Terence Stamp and Jack Palance.

What is cool about the move on these reboots is that Robinson and Morgan Creek are reportedly seeking original producers to get their blessing for any new projects, which, we obviously respect.

“Given the quality of our library, we are in a unique position among independent content-driven companies to take advantage of the many opportunities this new world presents, thanks to the foresight shown by James Robinson over the past 30 years,” David Robinson added, referring to the fact that his father managed to secure underlying rights to their catalogue making it much easier to get redos off the ground.

We’ll bring you more as we get it.
