‘Lady Bird’ Has Set A New Record On Rotten Tomatoes

The Rotten Tomatoes Lady Bird score is one of the best ever. The festival favourite, which is directed by the excellent Greta Gerwig, has managed to land a striking 100% Fresh rating on the reviews aggregator. The rating has been accumulated through 170 reviews, mainly from Stateside critics where the film received a limited released earlier this month. It opened wide this past weekend, just in time for the Thanksgiving movie crowds.

Rotten Tomatoes’ Lady Bird score riding high at 100%

Lady Bird stars Saoirse Ronan in the lead role and so far the film has made a whopping $10 million in just a few weeks – and that’s just on domestic soil.

Here’s the synopsis:

In Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice with her directorial debut, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter. Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) fights against but is exactly like her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird’s father (Tracy Letts) loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.

Lady Bird doesn’t release in the UK until February, but the Rotten Tomatoes Lady Bird score has certainly put the film at the top of my most anticipated films of next year and almost a cert for awards glory in the upcoming couple of months.

Critics Consensus: Lady Bird delivers fresh insights about the turmoil of adolescence — and reveals writer-director Greta Gerwig as a fully formed filmmaking talent.
