Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Star Trek’ Movie Is Gaining Pace; Will Be R-Rated

A story broke earlier this week which surprised us all – Quentin Tarantino could be making a Star Trek movie. Well, the gist of it is that the Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction filmmaker has essentially come up with a fantastic idea that has blown the socks off current Star Trek series producer J.J. Abrams, so much so that the filmmaker immediately assembled a writer’s room to get those ideas down. Well, it seems that things are moving at warp speed over in Hollywood as that writer’s room, comprised of Mark L. Smith, Lindsey Beer, and Drew Pearce, have met with Tarantino who stuck around to brainstorm ideas earlier this week. More on the Tarantino Star Trek movie below.

Tarantino Star Trek Movie Is Heading For An R-Rating

Deadline have detailed that one of those three writers will win the project and the word over at the trade is that Smith, who wrote the Oscar-winning The Revanant, is the front runner to bag it. While that news tantalises us, it’s not the juicy nit of news from this development in the story. The big news is that the project is being pitched as R-rated and both Paramount and Abrams have agreed to releasing the film as such.

Then there’s this:

That rating was crucially important to Tarantino, who hopes to direct this Star Trek and who has helmed R rated films his entire career.

So, maybe Tarantino is planning to direct the film? Of course, it will definitely not be his next film as that has already been confirmed to start shooting next year in Los Angeles with Sony Pictures backing it. That film, rumoured to have a $100 million budget, will be based in the late 1960s with the Charles Manson murders serving as a backdrop. His Star Trek movie could go into production shortly after that releases in August 2019. That would make it his tenth motion picture, he milestone that Tarantino always said he would work towards and then retire from directing.

We’ll bring you more on the Tarantino Star Trek movie as it comes our way.
