Odds on the 2017 Christmas Number One

The race is on! Sales are being tallied, listens are being counted, it’s time to decide who’s going to have the Christmas Number One for 2017! But who’s going to be the winner?

Could this year see another number one for Simon Cowell and his X-factor machine, or could we see a surprise upset just like 2009? We’ve jumped on the bandwagon and have brought you the low-down on all this year’s hotly tipped contenders.

Last year’s Christmas Number one crown was claimed by none other than Clean Bandit. Their dance track “Rockabye” clung on at the top of the chart for six weeks before cruising into its seventh week and taking Crimbo No.1.

It had some tough competition too, going on to beat Rag ‘N’ Bone Man’s “Human” and Louis Tomlinson’s Just Hold On, both heavily played and widely loved tracks.

But 2017 is looking like a whole different ball game. As of the time of writing, these are the odds for which song it’s going to be..

Ed Sheeran (ft. Beyoncé) (1/6)

How has Ed Sheeran never claimed a Christmas Number One? It’s absurd. This year though, he has teamed up with power house Beyoncé and could claim the top spot with “Perfect”. He’s a definite favourite as it stands.

Wham! /George Michael (8/1)

Not really a surprise, seeing as dear George departed us on Christmas Day 2016, this year the chart is reflecting the loss almost as a tribute. If you are anything like us, you’re bound to be banging out “Last Christmas” as often as you can – Can Georgie, do it?

X Factor winner – Rak-Su (18/1)

The Last time an X-Factor winner took Christmas Number one was back in 2014, Does the Rak-Su, the first boy band to win, have a shot this year? Only time will tell.

Mariah Carey (10/1)

Is it even Christmas if you’re not listening to Mariah Carey on repeat?! She’s sure to land in the charts somewhere, but will it be No.1?

Eminem (16/1)

Another collaboration with Beyoncé, Walk on Water, is lingering in the depths of the charts, but can Eminem take the top spot in time for Xmas?

Rita Ora (20/1)

Oh Rita… She is bobbing away around number 3 with her new song “Anywhere”, with bookies predicting that Rita could be an outside shot to bag that number one.

James Arthur (20/1)

This former X-Factor winner will be battling it out against Rak-Su. Could James’ new single Naked beat his fellow graduates and top the charts on December 25?

Stormzy (20/1)

After his simply amazing performance on X Factor this year, some people think that Big Mikey himself might be in for a number one hit. Definitely one to keep an eye on!

Ariana Grande (20/1)

With her track Santa Tell Me stuck deep in the 60th spot, Ariana doesn’t seem the most likely to win this year, but anything can happen when it comes to the Christmas number one!

Adele (25/1)

After her HUUUGE world tour, Britain’s darling Adele might smash it out of the park with a brand new festive belter.

Elbow (25/1)

This year’s John Lewis Christmas advert features Elbow’s cover of the Beatles track Golden Slumbers.

That advert has already racked up millions of views on YouTube, as well as being shown on prime-time TV. With that helping tip the odds, this song definitely has a shot at being Christmas number one.

MC Big Shaq (33/1)

Big Shaq has burst his way onto the scenes this year with his “Quick Maths” and now there is a campaign to get Man’s Not Hot to the coveted #1 spot this Christmas. Is it a badly conceived joke or will Big Shaq truly smash that number 1?

Little Mix (33/1)

Another X-Factor alumni with their eyes on the number #1 spot – They recently performed on the 2017 X-factor finals and put their name out there again just in time for Christmas!

Justin Bieber (33/1)

Bieber was close to getting Number One in 2015, but he stepped aside so the charity single of that year would win instead. Not so sure he will be as generous this time…

David Bowie (40/1)

The late David Bowie is still in our hearts, so it seems entirely possible that his collaboration with Bing Cosby might claw its way back into the charts this year!

Sam Smith (40/1)

With a freshly released second studio album, Sam’s got a good chance if it’s anywhere near as good as his first, we can definitely see him getting the Crimbo numero uno!

Chris and Kem (200/1)

Love Island besties Chris Hughes and Kem Cetinay have already had a hit with Little Bit Leave It, what’s the chances of a comedy number one again this year? Pretty long since they also said they weren’t making more music, but who knows!
