There are rumours circling this morning that Apple may be swirling around a possible Netflix takeover with a chance of around 40% of it actually happening. Said rumours come from sources at Business Insider who state that the Apple Netflix takeover could happen due to US President Donald Trump’s corporate tax cut which has just been passed.
Apple Netflix takeover a possibility?
Citi analysts Jim Suva and Asiya Merchant say that is able to repatriate about $220 billion in cash to the US under the Trump tax cut. They reportedly have around $250 billion in cash, most of it in foreign jurisdictions, which it was previously unable to bring back to the US.
This is a huge deal. Apple has recently started to invest in scripted television, so it clearly has an interest in moving into key streaming territory, one which Netflix is clearly dominating.

Apple, of course, haven’t commented as yet, nor will they, but the global giant has previously been linked with buying the likes of The Walt Disney Company, and even Tesla. They have bought the music tagger Shazam recently, a much smaller acquisition, but if the Apple Netflix deal does happen, it will make it one of the biggest players at the forefront of film and television development for the future. With their Apple TV, which is arguably the most user-friendly interface for streaming into living rooms, the deal could establish them even further as the go-to company when it comes to upgrading home cinema/ living room set-ups in the future.
I’m particularly excited by the prospect, but obviously we could be a long way away from this even happening. We’ll keep you posted of any further developments. For more information on the potential Apple Netflix takeover, hit the links above.
