Slender Man is directed by Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard, The Losers) and is based on the fictional supernatural character that originated as a creepypasta Internet meme created by ‘Something Awful’ forums user Eric Knudsen in 2009. It is depicted as a thin, unnaturally tall man with a featureless head and face, wearing a black suit.
Official synopsis (via IMDB): Slender Man tells the story of a tall, thin horrifying figure with unnaturally long arms and a featureless face, who is reputed to be responsible for the haunting and disappearance of countless children and teens.
According to the WikiPedia page for the phenomenon, a minor moral panic occurred in 2014 over the Slender Man after readers of his fiction were connected to several violent acts, particularly a near-fatal stabbing of a 12-year-old girl in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
The film stars stars Javier Botet as the title monster, alongside Jaz Sinclair, Joey King, Julia Goldani Telles, Annalise Basso, and Alex Fitzalan. The screenplay is by David Nirke, who scripted Paul Verhoeven’s superb award magnet Elle with Isabelle Hupert which was released in cinemas last year.
The film will be released by Sony Pictures’ genre arm Screen Gems Stateside in the spring Slender Man will debut in the U.K. on the same date as the U.S. premiere, May 18th 2018.
