Don’t Miss These Netflix Releases in 2018
It’s hard to remember what life was like before on-demand home entertainment. A time before streaming giant, Netflix, dominated our TV screens with their ever-expanding catalogue of movies, series, stand-up comedy and documentaries. As we make headway into the New Year, Netflix subscribers can look forward to a host of new titles that are scheduled to be added to its already impressive library in 2018. We’ll see some of our favourite shows return for another season, as well as some hotly anticipated Netflix original content that is slated to be released this year.
An Action-packed Start to the Year
January starts off with an action-packed bang, with a slew of popular blockbusters that are scheduled to be added to the Netflix catalogue. If you’re on the hunt for pure escapism and thrilling action-adventure, be sure not to miss Kong: Skull Island and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 which starts streaming on 19 and 21 January respectively. With its cinematic release in 2017, Kong: Skull Island is the latest adaption of the silver-screen classic, King Kong. Along with its dazzling display of special effects, it boasts a star-studded cast which includes the likes of Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman. Be sure to follow that up with arguably one of Marvel’s most popular franchises, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Don’t miss this refreshingly quick-witted sequel that makes for great family viewing.
New Seasons of Old Favourites
Some series are just too good to leave behind in 2017 and Netflix has ensured that a number of their most popular shows return for yet another season in 2018. One of its most successful and recognizable shows, Orange Is The New Black, returns for its sixth season that follows the highs and lows of the women of Litchfield Penitentiary. Just like Australian Open tennis betting this series never fails to disappoint.
Hailed for their gritty, character-driven storytelling, Netflix in partnership with Marvel Studios, are set to release the second season of Jessica Jones and the third season of Daredevil this year. If you enjoyed the crossover miniseries The Defenders which also features Marvel heroes Luke Cage and Iron Fist alongside Jessica Jones and Daredevil, you’ll definitely not want to miss the upcoming season releases to find out if there are over-arching plot points that directly relate to what happened in The Defenders.
Other new seasons set for release include 13 Reasons Why, A Series of Unfortunate Events and Narcos, all of which may go a long way to changing your perspective on topical, often sensitive issues.
Hotly Anticipated Netflix Original Content
The first Australian Netflix original series, Tidelands will make its season debut this year. This ten-episode supernatural crime drama revolves around an ex-con as she returns home to the small fishing village of Orphelin Bay. When the dead body of a local fisherman washes ashore, it leads her to uncover the secrets of the town and its sinister and dangerous half-Siren/half-human residents called Tidelanders.
