He’s started to hit the promotional trail for the upcoming Marvel Studios film Black Panther, and Kevin Feige, president of the studio, has opened up about the planned takeover of 20th Century Fox by Marvel’s parent company Disney. Movie fans are excited of the prospect of Deadpool and the X-Men being incorporated into the MCU if that deal goes through.
Speaking to Vulture, Feige said: “I read about it in the press like most people did,” Feige said. “These are big deals, and certainly above my pay grade.”
“The truth of the matter as I understand it is the deal has to be figured out,” he added. “There’s been no communication. We’re not thinking about it. We’re focusing on everything we’ve already announced. If and when the deal actually happens, we’ll start to think more about it. Until then, we have a lot to do… It would be years away. We’ve announced everything through 2019, so none of those would be adjusted. I think about it through 2019, through the movies we’ve already shot or are about to start filming. I’m hoping to deliver on everything we’ve promised thus far.”
There is a ton of movies already on Marvel’s slate. 2018 alone will see Black Panther debut in cinemas later this month, Avengers: Infinity War arrive in the spring, and then Ant-Man and the Wasp in the summer. There’s also Captain Marvel set for 2019, the next Avengers film next spring, and then a third Guardians Of The Galaxy movie from James Gunn. That takes us up until 2020 when there should be more clarity surrounding the Fox/ Disney deal.
More as we get it. Black Panther arrives in UK cinemas on February 12th.
