R.I.P. John Mahoney – ‘Frasier’ Actor Was 77

John Mahoney, the British-born actor, best known for his role in the 1990s sitcom Frasier, has passed away at the age of 77. Mahoney died in Chicago on Sunday while in hospice care.

Mahoney was a screen veteran, appearing in films like The American President, Moonstruck, In the Line of Fire, and Say Anything, along with voice credits in animated movies like Antz and Atlantis.

However, it was his role as Martin Crane, father to Kelsey Grammar’s titular character Frasier, which made him a global star. Frasier ran for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004.

Tributes poured in for the actor, moments after news of his passing broke. This was posted to Twitter by fellow thespian Gary Sinise, co-founder of Chicago theatre company Steppenwolf, which Mahoney was a member of for 39 years.
