A Third ‘Annabelle’ Film To Join The ‘The Conjuring’ Cinematic Universe

Creepy doll Annabelle was first introduced in James Wan’s chilling The Conjuring movie. Despite only being present for a couple of scenes she was the thing that stuck in most people’s heads. Since then she has had two cinematic outings, the first a prequel to The Conjuring, the second a prequel to that, and now there’s a third film in the works.

Details are very thin on the ground right now, but what we do know is that the new film will be directed by Gary Dauberman. If his name sounds familiar that will be because he was one of the writers of last years smash horror hit It. Incidentally he also wrote the first Annabelle film as well as fellow Conjuring Universe offering The Nun, so he’s well versed in this world. It will be his first foray into directing so we’ll have to see if he can translate his scary prose into terrifying visuals.

A release date is currently set for 9th July 2019. Before that though comes the aforementioned The Nun. This will focus on the truly sinister nun that haunted Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson during The Conjuring 2. It’s being directed by Corin Hardy, (the man at the helm of the latest The Crow movie) whose debut The Hallow is a modern horror classic. It stars Taissa Farmiga (younger sister of Vera) and Demián Bichir as the first victims of the habit wearing demon. The Nun is released in UK cinemas on 7th September 2018.
