I was a huge fan of the original 1980s TV show that was Magnum P.I., and obviously, like everything else, Hollywood is rebooting it for modern audiences. The original show, about a Ferrari-driving detective in Hawaii, played by Tom Selleck, sees Jay Hernandez (Hostel, Suicide Squad) assume the title role, and we have the very first trailer to share with you.

CBS are behind the reboot, which revolves around Thomas Magnum, a decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator in Hawaii.

Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton and Stephen Hill are also amongst the cast.

Here’s the official synopsis as provided by CBS.

MAGNUM P.I. is back. Special Ops veteran, charming rogue and at home behind the wheel of a Ferrari, Thomas Magnum takes jobs no one else will, with the help of fellow vets T.C. Calvin and Rick Wright. Higgins is back too; but now it’s Ms. Higgins, a former M16 agent. Based on the Emmy-winning 1980s series.

Justin Lin (Fast & Furious series) has tackled the pilot for the new reboot, the first footage for which you can see in the new trailer, which is actually pretty lengthy. I have to admit, I like what I see, and for a CBS show, this looks pretty high octane- possibly due to Lin’s very experienced directing chops.

The Magnum PI TV reboot trailer can be viewed in the player below (thanks to Joblo.com for firing it up online). The show will start to air on the CBS networks later this year. There is no information as to which channel it will head to in the UK, but we’ll keep you posted.
