Patrick Stewart To Return As Captain Picard In New ‘Star Trek’ Series?

Sir Patrick Stewart is reportedly set to return to his famous role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in a new Star Trek series. so reports The Live Feed. Sources at the trade paper report that rumblings are getting louder on a Picard return from Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman, who are attached to the project.

Kurtzman has just signed a new contract over at CBS which will see him through until 2023. He just took over as show runner on the Star Trek: Discovery series which airs on Netflix in the UK. The deal includes multiple series but a ‘Next Generation’ extension is reportedly high up the list of priorities, though the trade does add that say a deal with Stewart is far from completed and may not happen. CBS did not comment specifically on the Picard series rumours, but did release a statement on Kurtzman’s signing.

“There is a very short list of writer-producer-directors that every film and television studio wants to be associated with, and Alex and his Secret Hideout team are always at the top,” CBS Television Studios president David Stapf said. “His talent, taste and ability to shepherd a successful project is unparalleled. Alex has done remarkable work for our studio, dating back seven years to the launch of Hawaii Five-0, and we are thrilled that he, [Secret Hideout president] Heather [Kadin] and their team will be partnering with us for a long time to come.”

At CBS Television Studios, Kurtzman will develop new series, miniseries and other content, including animation, all set around the Star Trek brand.
