Interview: Director Brad Bird and Producers John Walker & Nicole Grindle on ‘Incredibles 2’

It’s been fourteen years in the waiting but, finally, Disney Pixar’s Incredibles 2 swoops into cinemas this week.  The second outing for the Parr family, and their astonishing red and black-clad alter-egos, picks up exactly where the first film left off, with the arrival of the Underminer.  But Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl and the rest of the crew are soon caught up in the fight to make superheroes legal again – and there’s a brand new villain standing in their way.

Our interview with Incredibles 2 director, Brad Bird, and producers John Walker and Nicole Grindle, is below.

  • Incredibles 2 arrives in cinemas this Friday, 13 July.
  • The first film was released 14 years ago.
  • It reunites the original voices of Craig T Nelson, Holly Hunter and Samuel L   Jackson with writer/director Bird.

In the years that have passed since The Incredibles first appeared on our screens, superheroes have become a cinema staple. Talking to The Hollywood News, Bird addresses his concerns about returning to the Parr family in such a different landscape and explains why the film isn’t necessarily superheroes at all. He, Grindle and Walker also speculate how the youngest member of the family, Jack Jack, would fare against a supervillain like Thanos – and who would come off worst!
