‘Zombieland 2’ Officially A Go With Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg Returning

A sequel to the 2009 hit zombie movie Zombieland is officially a go with original cast members Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin all returning, so reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The original movie became a surprise hit nearly a decade ago after taking just over $100 million at the worldwide box-office from a reported budget of just over $20 million.

The original film’s director Ruben Fleischer, who is directing the new Venom movie for Sony Pictures, will return for the sequel, as will original writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who since the first Zombieland movie have penned the hugely successful Deadpool and its sequel.

“This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time — and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse and Abigail,” said Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch in a statement through the trade paper. “These are some of the most in-demand actors, and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing.”

THR also has some plot details.

The new movie will once again put the focus on comic mayhem, taking the quartet from the White House to the American heartland as they face off against new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors.

Production on the Zombieland sequel is set to kick off in January with the release set to hit in October of 2019, just in time for the ten-year anniversary of the release of the first movie.
