‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Spin-Off ‘Mayans MC’ First Reactions

It doesn’t air until September 4th in the U.S. but the Mayans MC reviews are starting to surface online – and the early word is good. The show is a spin-off from the hugely successful FX series Sons Of Anarchy, and is brought to screen by that series’ creator Kurt Sutter.

Mayans MC reviews start to come in

Mayans MC is set in a n a post-Jax Teller world, and sees EZ Reyes, a former golden boy now fresh out of prison, as a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California-Mexico border who must carve out his new outlaw identity.

Here’s the official synopsis or Mayans MC:

Mayans MC is a drama series from Kurt Sutter and Elgin James based on the Sons of Anarchy saga. Set in a post Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes is a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border. Now EZ must carve out his new outlaw identity in a town where he once was the golden boy with the American Dream in his grasp. Produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.

One of the first Mayans MC reviews was posted on Friday by Entertainment Weekly who paint the new show in a fairly positive light, saying:

Mayans benefits from the richness of its source material, and for Sons fans it’ll fit like a well-worn kutte. The premiere opens on the image of a dog digging into the guts of a dead crow. There’s a roar in the distance, and the mutt darts away just as a motorcycle crushes the bird’s carcass under its wheels. The crow is a nod to one of the final images in Sons, and the message from Sutter is clear: Sons of Anarchyis dead. Long live the Sons!

It has been four years since SOA ended, so we’re hungry for some more action from Sutter anc co. Mayans MC will hit FX Stateside on September 4th. As far as we can see, the show hasn’t yet been picked up by a UK broadcaster, but, of course, we’ll keep you posted if/ when that changes.
