Former Doctor Who and star of The Crown series on Netflix, Matt Smith, is joining the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars Episode IX for Lucasfilm.
The film is already shooting in the UK for a December 2019 release date. The cast already includes the likes of Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Dominic Monaghan, Naomi Ackie and the late Carries Fisher, who will appear using unseen footage.
Variety reports the news of Smith’s casting, but we not privy to any details as to who he may play.
The film is the latest installment in the saga and follows on from events seen in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi which was released last year.
