Richard Linklater Is Making A Bill Hicks Movie

Texas filmmaker Richard Linklater is reportedly making a film about legendary comedian Bill Hicks. Collider broke the news of the project, saying that Linklater will both write and direct for Focus Features.

Hicks was one of the greatest funnymen, social commentator and satirist of his generation. He sadly passed away at the young age of 32 from pancreatic cancer back in 1994.  Collider linked to an interview with Hicks, posted online back in 2011.

In the video, Linklater says: “There’s not quite any others like him. They don’t speak in the same voice. You’d think people would take that torch and go with it, but it’s a rare combination of that kind of intelligence, mysticism, political, you know… his politics, his angle, it’s pretty unique.” He added, “I go through my life all the time… everything that’s going on in our culture, I always think, what would Bill Hicks be doing? You just miss him.”

Linklater’s project is bound to be highly anticipated. More news as it comes our way.
