A new trailer has arrived for the January-released Monsters and Men, a film which originally premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Shot in Brooklyn, NY, Monsters And Men features John David Washington (BlackKklansman, Ballers), up-and-coming actor Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Mudbound) and star of Broadway’s Hamilton Anthony Ramos.

Monsters and Men tells a ripple-effect narrative: from an eye-witness (Ramos) who captures a shooting on his phone, an African-American police officer (Washington) battling with his conscience to stand up against his fellow officers, to a local high school student (Harrison Jr) who transforms from passive bystander to vehement activist. With fluid cinematography that’s alert and expressive, the film explores the ramifications of such an event in a terrifying and poetic way.

I loved this film. I saw it back in September and called it, ‘a fantastic piece of cinema’.

The main asset that Monsters and Men has is its outstanding cast. Everyone that I have mentioned so far delivers top-notch performances, Washington rapidly rivaling his father with his varying career choices, and skillful execution, while other leads in Ramos, Harrison Jr and Rob Morgan in support as Zyrick’s encouraging father equally engross and out-perform in their respective roles.

You can read my review at the end of the link above. The film hits cinemas and on-demand on 18th January.
