Father’s Day is incoming! This Sunday, dads all over the country will be doted on by their little ones with mountains of food, and lots of booze. I say that as a new father in the hope that at least one of those no doubt far-off dream comes true. If anyone out there is struggling for ideas for the important dad in their life, here are six newly packaged box-sets perfect for bringing this weekend. Time to let dad hold the remote for a change!
Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray
It might seem like these are always playing on TV but the Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray set is absolutely packed with bonus material. We add that this box-set contains JUST the first six movies in the series (sans The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi), but with the new movie due in cinemas this December, it’s perfect fodder for father in anticipation of The Rise Of Skywalker.
Rocky Collection 1-6
This has to be the ultimate for any dad over the age of 30. Creed and its sequel Creed II packed the punches, but they wouldn’t be in existence without the original Rocky and the five movies that followed. Spanning three decades, the Rocky movies are etched in Hollywood history -particularly the first three – okay, and four – and are an absolute must for any collection. Note, the Creed movies are sadly not included.
X-Men Collection
There’s a new movie playing in cinemas, and while the reviews for X-Men: Dark Phoenix have been far from positive, there are still multiple movies out there that do make the grade. Starting with the movie that defined a genre – the awesome 2000 Bryan Singer movie X-Men and no less than SEVEN other movies, including the last three big prequel releases, X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days Of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse.
RoboCop Trilogy
The Robocop Trilogy is also a box-set out there particularly perfect for papas. While the first movie, directed by Paul Verhoeven, is clearly the best, there’s still something to get from the two movies that followed. Peter Weller is the title character in the films – well, the first two (Robert John Burke plays the supercop in the third), all set in the dystopian Detroit of the future.
James Bond: Roger Moore Collection
Who’s the best Bond? Well, Roger Moore of course. Rodge played the famous British spy in no less than seven 007 movies and all are present here in one unique set. Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me, A View To A Kill, Octopussy and The Man With The Golden Gun are all present here in one unique set, though sadly available currently on DVD only.
Planet of the Apes Primal Collection
Again, only available on DVD, but the Planet Of The Apes Primal Collection is worth seeking out as it includes eight films in the iconic series from across the decades. Included in the box set is: Planet of the Apes (1968), Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970), Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971), Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972), Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973) Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes (2001), Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014). In fact, the only movie not included is the most recent, War For The Planet Of The Apes, which was released in 2017.
