Dogwoof has revealed that the Sundance applauded documentary Halston is set for a director’s cut release on the home formats later this month. Making its world premiere in Sundance, followed by UK premiere at London’s Flare Festival in March and UK-wide theatrical release in June; Frédéric Tcheng’s Halston will be land on DVD on 22nd July. The home entertainment release will be the director’s cut, which was presented in Sundance, and will feature five promo-clips and theatrical trailer as extras.
In the deft hands of Frédéric Tcheng (Dior and I), Halston’s life is told with rare archival footage and intimate interviews with his friends, family, and collaborators including Liza Minnelli, his niece Lesley Frowick, filmmaker Joel Schumacher, and the Halstonette models. Tcheng frames Halston’s story as an investigation, using scripted scenes featuring actress and writer Tavi Gevinson as a young archivist diving into the Halston company records. The viewer is taken behind the headlines and into the thrilling struggle between Halston’s artistic legacy and the pressures of big business.
Roy Halston Halston was the embodiment of the American dream. Tcheng explores the sweep of his life from his time at Bergdorf Goodman to his groundbreaking fashion show in China. His innovation in design and business pushed American fashion to rival the old houses of Europe. Halston reveals and celebrates the designer’s impact on fashion, culture, and business.
The planned bonus material is outlined below, along with the trailer for the release.
