Disney Has Found Their Ariel For The Live-Action ‘Little Mermaid’

It came through late last night that Disney has cast their Ariel for The Little Mermaid, the live-action version of their classic 1989 animation due to start filming in 2020.

Halle Bailey has been cast in the iconic role in Disney’s upcoming live-action reimagining of The Little Mermaid. The film is directed by Rob Marshall and produced by Marshall, John DeLuca, Marc Platt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The film will feature beloved songs from the animated classic by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as new songs by Menken (music) and Miranda (lyrics).

“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” says Marshall.

Production is anticipated to begin in early 2020, says the official release from the Mouse House. There no further announcements but we’re loving this. The film is in exceptionally good hands with Marshall behind the camera. The filmmaker had the unenviable task of making a follow-up to Mary Poppins with Mary Poppins Returns last year and, quite frankly, knocked it out of the park.

We’ll bring you more news on The Little Mermaid as and when.
