Many people who have watched Arnold Schwarzenegger across his glittering five-decade career believe that he is one of the best actors and one of the great screen presences of all time. His films are action-packed with incredible memorable scenes and spectacular effects. This month, he returns to one of his most iconic movie characters in Terminator: Dark Fate. To celebrate the new film we revisit some classic performances from some of the best Arnold Schwarzenegger films.
The Running Man (1987)
This movie is based on Stephen King’s novel (The Running Man as Richard Bachman). In this movie, Arnold stars as Ben Richards, who is a former soldier mistakenly accused of causing a massacre. Due to this, he is punished through forceful participation in a violent TV reality show. In the show, titled ‘The Running Man’, he has to fight for his life as he faces professional killers. This action-packed movie available is just one amongst his classics movies on DVD, is loaded with special effects and is an excellent piece of entertainment for viewers.
Twins (1988)
Twins serves as more of a comedy than an all-out action film as Arnold takes on the role as Julius Benedict. Benedict is a human specimen generated through a lab experiment, while Danny DeVito plays his twin brother, Vincent.
In the film, Julius exits his protected life, abandoning his remote home island to search for his other twin. After finding him, they both go in search of their mother. This is a classic family movie with lots of exciting action set-pieces, humor, and romance. A Sequel is reportedly planned with Eddie Murphy set to star as the third Benedict brother.
True Lies (1994)
From Terminator filmmaker comes a brilliant action-comedy where Arnold appears as Harry Tasker. Harry is a man living a double life. His wife and daughter think he is a computer salesman, however, secretly he is decorated super-spy for the US government. Unavoidably, his wife gets into trouble, leading her to work with her husband to battle aggressive Islamist groups.
Commando (1985)
A cult classic and one of Arnold’s best action movies from the 1980s. Here, Arnold is retired commando Colonel John Matrix. In the film, his daughter is abducted by a psychotic despot. Matrix takes the law into his own hands and goes after her kidnappers ready to unleash hell.`
The Predator (1987)
In one of his best and most iconic movie roles, Arnold plays Dutch, the leader of a team of intelligent operation commandos. The team goes into a Central American jungle, their rescue mission leading them to encounter a powerful extraterrestrial creature that blends to every surrounding. Finally, the beast terminates all and only Dutch remains to take down the alien threat.
The Terminator (1984)
This is one of the memorable films that made Schwarzenegger a star. Here, Schwarzenegger takes the role of a cyborg machine, the T-800. The machine is sent back to kill Sarah Conor while pregnant, so she doesn’t give birth to future leader John Connor. However, Kyle Reese is assigned to protect Sarah from oncoming tragedy. This is a sensational movie you shouldn’t miss, just one of many Terminator movies which will continue with this month’s big release of Terminator: Dark Fate.
Apart from those six, Arnold Schwarzenegger has dozens of movies under his belt, won Mr. Universe for the first time aged just 20, and has also been governor of California. He has earned him millions of fans globally and remains one of the most iconic screen presences ever. Long may that continue.
Terminator: Dark Fate is released in cinemas on 23rd October 2019.
