‘Game Of Thrones’ David Benioff & D B Weiss Depart Star Wars

Game Of Thrones‘ David Benioff and D B Weiss have reportedly walked away from Lucasfilm and their planned Star Wars trilogy. The duo were set to bring three movies set in the Star Wars universe in the coming years, with the first one hitting in 2022, but it looks like that now won’t happen.

The two filmmakers have issued a statement saying:

“We love Star Wars”, they said. “When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything”.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy added: “David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers. We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars.”

Benioff and Weiss recently signed a reported nine-figure deal with Netflix so their schedule is pretty packed.

There is, however, a new Star Wars movie due in cinemas in a couple of weeks and The Mandalorian set for screens just before that. The Last Jedi’s Rian Johnson is also putting together his own trilogy which is still very much on the cards.
