New trailer for ‘True History of the Kelly Gang’ with George Mackay, Russell Crowe

A new trailer for the brilliant True History of the Kelly Gang has dropped online ahead of its release next year. The film played at this year’s TIFF where it was largely received with praise. The film, brought to the screen by Justin Kurzel, features an all star cast that includes George Mackay, Charline Hunnam, Nicholas Hoult and a superb Russell Crowe.

The film is a bold and visceral take on the story of Ned Kelly, starring George MacKay (1917, Pride), Nicholas Hoult (Tolkien, The Favourite), Essie Davis (The Babadook, Babyteeth), Charlie Hunnam (King Arthur, Crimson Peak) Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit, Last Night In Soho) and Russell Crowe (A Beautiful Mind, Master & Commander: The Far Side Of The World).

Produced by Hal Vogel (Endgame) and Liz Watts (The King), with Paul Ranford (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Justin Kurzel, the film is rousingly adapted from Peter Carey’s Booker Prize?winning novel by previous Kurzel collaborator Shaun Grant (Snowtown) and co-financed by Film4.

Kurzel’s film shatters the mythology of the notorious icon to reveal the essence behind the life of Ned Kelly and in doing so will take audiences on a mercerising journey into the ashes of this brutal period in history. Spanning the younger years of Kelly’s life and the events leading up to his death, the film explores the motivations for the demise of this legendary figure. Youth and tragedy collide in the Kelly Gang, and at the beating heart of this tale is the fractured and powerful love story between a mother and a son.

True History of the Kelly Gang hits cinemas on 28th February. Watch the new trailer below.
