The beloved Marvel character is getting another feature film and the plot is already in the making. With the release of Avengers: Endgame the contract between Chris Hemsworth and Marvel reportedly came to end, so a lot of fans were wondering whether they would see their favorite actor as the superhero once again.
But Marvel didn’t leave the fans wondering for too long since they announced soon enough that Chris Hemsworth would be returning for the fourth film to work with the studio. The announcement about the fourth film came out in 2019’s Comic-Con.
Despite the fact that the release of the movie is still far away, we already know the basics of the fourth Thor installment.
The director of Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi will be returning for the new Thor movie. We know that the title for the movie will be Thor: Love and Thunder. The director has also teased that the new script is almost finished but definitely needs some more work.
Considering the fact that Thor has so many die-hard fans, the fourth installment of the movie series, especially one coming out after ‘Endgame’ has to deliver. ‘Endgame’ is now the highest-grossing film in the history of moviemaking and it has expanded the already huge Marvel fanbase. The studio probably feels a bit of pressure to keep the momentum going and deliver high-quality movies with their usual heartfelt and engaging plots, especially after the huge success of ‘Endgame’.
Thor is a very popular figure even outside of the Marvel universe. Thor is the God of thunder, lightning, storms, and strength. You will see a lot of mentions of Thor in contemporary pop culture that has nothing to do with the Marvel universe, but the superhero movies have done great for the promotion of the character.
We see countless merchandise and various games based on Thor’s characters, ranging from the ubiquitous console game to more unconventional ones like card games, slot machine games, board games, and even a Fat Thor fighting game. Using popular themes and character adds an extra touch to any game on entertaining experience and a lot of companies have caught on that it’s a great way to attract new fanbases and let them enjoy their services and games with the familiar characters.
The speculations around the cast
We know that Thor will be played by Chris Hemsworth, but there are many other characters that fans want to know about. The biggest update since the last movie is that Natalie Portman will be returning.
Portman hasn’t been a part of the franchise since Thor: The Dark World, the movie that came out in 2013. It was reportedly largely thanks to the director of this upcoming movie, Waititi, that made Portman take the plunge and return to the production. Having worked with the director before, the world-famous actress seems to be more than happy to join in on the new film.
Tessa Thompson will also be back as Valkyrie, who was made leader of New Asgard at the end of the Avengers: Endgame. The Studio has announced that Valkyrie will be its first openly LGBT character and this has also gotten Marvel some additional support from the fanbase.
Tom Hiddleston’s return is also a possibility and the fans are hoping to see their favorite Loki character back, along with Idris Elba’s Heimdall. Heimdall’s return is less likely because the character is, well, currently dead in the MCU, but the actor himself took to Twitter to intrigue the fans with a cryptic tweet that he might be returning to film another Marvel movie.
Another big movie star that could be joining the fourth Thor film is former Batman, Christian Bale but we don’t know yet what character he would be playing.
What we know about the plot
Not much is known about the details of the plot mostly because it is obviously still in the making. We know that the director has taken a lot of inspiration from the Marvel Comics The Mighty Thor by Jason Aaron and artist Russell Dauterman. The introduction of the first female Thor is a very big deal for the Marvel Universe, and will definitely resonate with the audiences. The only issues that both the moviemakers and the fans have in common are that Thor: Love and Thunder take place before the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ since it is set in Phase 5, and Thor in Phase 4. We haven’t seen the trailer for the movie and shouldn’t expect any major teasers till the end of 2020. Some fans are speculating that the first trailer for the Thor: Love and Thunder could drop at the next Comic-Con which would make sense since the announcement about the movie came out during 2019 Comic-con.
It will be interesting to see how the story will unfold, considering that Thor jumped off the Benatar in the Engine and we don’t know if he is actually teaming up with Mighty Thor.
The fans are already so excited about upcoming movies and hope to see some amazing A-listers even if the fate of the movie is hazy because of that ‘Endgame’ ending. The potential introduction of the first-ever female Thor in the movies, the return of Natalie Portman and possibly having Christian Bale on board is already a great starting point for the movie and almost guarantees the success of Thor: Love and Thunder.
