In August of 2018, Greta Thunberg, a 15-year-old student from Sweden, starts a school strike for the climate. Her question for adults is this: if you don’t care about her future on this planet, why should she care about her future in school? Within months, her strike evolves into a global movement, as schoolchildren from across the world join the #FridaysForFuture strikes and march to demand politicians start taking serious steps to tackle climate change. Greta, a shy schoolgirl with Asperger’s, is suddenly thrust onto the world stage as the voice of the next generation.
Greta’s story is told through compelling, never-before-seen footage in this intimate documentary from Swedish environmental filmmaker Nathan Grossman and producers Cecilia Nessen (prod. Bergman: A Year in the Life) and Fredrik Heinig (prod. Bergman: A Year in the Life, Midsommar). Starting with her one-person school strike for climate justice outside the Swedish Parliament, Grossman follows Greta in her rise to prominence, and her galvanizing global impact as she sparks school strikes around the world. The film culminates with her astonishing wind powered voyage across the Atlantic Ocean to speak at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York City, where she delivers an impassioned speech to politicians that reverberates across the world.
