Heist movies always provide viewers with a wide range of emotions, making them arguably some of the best types of film to watch.
The storylines that the films produce are almost amongst some of the best and most interesting, whilst films of this particular genre always appear to appeal to some of the very best actors and directors to have ever been in the industry, which is perhaps a reason as to why so many look to watch these particular films.
Indeed, their escapades to try and obtain their main goals – whether it be to stitch up a bank or to turn the screws on a person who has wronged them for real money – draws plenty of viewers in and provides them with a truly memorable experience.
There have been a number of quality heist movies to have hit the big screen over the years, however here are just a few of the best to have ever been produced.
Ocean’s Eleven (2001)
Ocean’s Eleven may have had a number of titles follow it, however it is certainly the best one to have been produced – perhaps because of the star-studded cast it had involved. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Andy Garcia and Julia Roberts all played prominent roles within the film.
The story has plenty of sub-plots, which helps viewers get gripped with the film and the way it had been directed and developed made for great viewing. Ocean’s Eleven certainly ticked every single box that would be asked of a heist movie and one that certainly did not disappoint.
The Sting (1973)
The Sting is, arguably, one of the greatest heist movies to have ever been produced. Having won the 1974 Best Picture and Best Director awards, Robert Redford and Paul Newman managed to come up with an incredible pairing on screen.
Starring as John Hooker and Henry Gondorff, the duo seek revenge on mob boss Doyle Lonnegan after he was accidentally ripped off by the former of the pair in which he decided to have Johnny’s partner killed. They come up with a truly incredible plan with a hugely intricate con and look set to get to work.
The film has to be considered one of the greatest as it takes viewers through a number of emotions, whilst also dazzling them and providing them with some really unpredictable moments.
Bonnie and Clyde (1967)
When thinking of heist movies, Bonnie and Clyde will never be too far from the minds of avid movie watchers. This film has a number of different elements to it and one that keeps viewers glued to the screen as they want to find out what will happen next as the duo look to try and bring some excitement to a rather difficult period of time.
The movie, though, may have to be considered one of the best heist movies of all time because of what it brought to the screen. It was one of the first films to depict bloodshed graphically and realistically.
Reservoir Dogs (1992)
When thinking of Quentin Tarantino films, many will have Reservoir Dogs at the top of their list as one of his best and it is the same for lovers of the heist genre as well.
The director has his stars assembled as a crew and depicts a film in which they were unsuccessful in their endeavours to conduct a bank robbery. It was a movie that provided viewers with a different outlook on traditional heists, whilst also continuing to remain as Tarantino-esq as possible in regards to the blood and gore he has perhaps been famed for using in his movies.
Reservoir Dogs was also a film that did not need a lot to make a classic, either, as the director expressed in his own words that all he needed was good actors and a basic set to produce an epic. Something he certainly managed to do.
