It’s a long time since we last saw Ben Hardy in EastEnders – five years, in fact – but since leaving Walford, he’s rubbed shoulders with the X-Men and, more recently, the members of Queen in Bohemian Rhapsody. Now he’s swopped big budget productions for something smaller, the comedy/thriller Pixie, which is released in cinemas this Friday.
He’s also acquired a partner in crime for the movie, played by Peaky Blinders’ Daryl McCormack, and the two team up for an Irish spaghetti western mash up that involves drug heists, revenge killings and a pistol packing priest who’s also a drug dealer. Alongside their double act is Pixie herself (Olivia Cooke) who is determined to track down her mother’s killer, regardless of the consequences for her or anybody else.
While Daryl had no problems with the accent he needed for the film, Ben admits in this exclusive interview that, as well as using a dialect coach, much of his research was made up of Westlife interviews. The two remember working with Alec Baldwin, who plays the lethal man of the cloth, as one of the highlights of making the film. And, despite one particular line of dialogue, both have eaten tacos since making the film without giving it a second thought!
Pixie is released in cinemas on Friday, 23 October.
