The end of the year is nearly upon us, and as we approach the festive season, tons of new movies are set to land on Netflix. Films like The Christmas Chronicles 2, Operation Christmas Drop, and Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Story are all set for the stream in the big lead-up to the holiday, but in this article, we thought we’d take a look at some of the other, non-festive titles coming to Netflix in the month of November. Here’s a list of our faves, along with the territories that they will be available – however, if you find yourself out of your territory and want to watch a movie listed for your country where you do subscribe, a VPN to watch Netflix might help you watch, and many are available on the market.
Loving (USA)
Here’s a brilliant movie from a few years back which caught the attention of the critics on the festival circuit. Loving stars Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga as Richard and Mildred Loving, a married couple who are arrested in 1960s Virginia for simply being married. The film follows them as they fight for their human rights in a lengthy legal battle which led to the Supreme Court’s historic 1967 decision on interracial marriage. This was one of our favourite movies from 2016 and it will be released on Netflix USA from 16th November.
Hillbilly Elegy (Worldwide)
If you’re not based in the USA, here’s a film that you can access anywhere as it is a Netflix worldwide release. Hillbilly Elegy is the latest film from acclaimed filmmaker Ron Howard and is based on the memoir of the same name by J.D. Vance. Amy Adams and Glenn Close lead the cast of the film which is about one family’s personal journey of survival and triumph across three generations. We’ve not seen the film as yet, but we’re huge fans of both Close and Adams, and, of course, Ron Howard. The film will have a brief run in cinemas in mid-November, and then be available for all to see on Netflix from 24th November.
Mosul (USA)
If you’re after something a little different, then how about this new Iraq-set drama executive produced by the Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, the talented duo behind the likes of Avenger: Endgame. This new film is directed by Matthew Carnahan, whose past screenplays include World War Z and the more recent 21 Bridges. Mosul is based on a true story, revolving around the Nineveh SWAT team who go up against ISIS to defend their home city of Mosul. The film garnered great reviews on the festival circuit and was acquired by Netflix for release on 26th November. This looks excellent.
We are listing titles with their countries highlighted. Though Netflix blocks VPNs, if you are out of your own territory, you will only be able to access the streaming service from where you are located, and, as such, the titles offered there. If you’re unable to stream any of the titles mentioned already, here are a couple of other forthcoming suggestions.
The Mule (Canada)
Clint Eastwood returns to the screen and directs this brilliant 2018 movie about an elderly war veteran named Earl Stone who makes some serious money running drugs across the border between the U.S. and Mexico for the cartel. featuring an excellent cast that also includes Bradley Cooper and Dianne Wiest, The Mule is one of those films that keep the viewer glued to the screen throughout. The film will be available on Netflix Canada from 17th November.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (UK)
If animation is your thing, then how about this outstanding piece of work from a couple of years’ back, a movie which bagged itself the Best Animated Feature Film at the Oscars. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is a multi-layered, skilfully animated feature that revolves around Mile Morales and various other superheroes who must come together from different dimensions to eliminate an immediate threat which could wipe-out them all. Available on Netflix UK in stunning 4K, this is a must when it arrives on 6th November.
Motherless Brooklyn (Australia) 13th
A bit of a sleeping masterpiece is this Edward Norton-directed and starring drama from last year which features an amazing supporting cast. Motherless Brooklyn boasts screen talents like Bruce Willis, Alec Baldwin, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Willem Dafoe, and centres on a detective with Tourette’s Syndrome in 1950s New York who must solve the murder of his boss. If you are an Australian Netflix subscriber, you will be able to access this as it is released there on 13th November.
Bone Tomahawk (Australia) 15th
If horror and westerns are your thing, then how about this hybrid from a few years’ back, Bone Tomahawk. Not for the faint-hearted, S. Craig Zahler’s debut film takes place in the dying days of the old west where an ageing sheriff, played by Kurt Russell, and his allies, set off on the rather unenviable task of rescuing their town’s doctor from a group of nasty cannibalistic dwellers. See this, if you dare, from the 15th November on Netflix Australia. If not, Kurt can also be seen in the aforementioned The Christmas Chronicles 2 – as Santa. Much easier to digest.
