Here’s a new trailer for a film that has been waiting for a release for a while now. I first caught ‘The Friend’, as it was known back then, in 2019. Now titled Our Friend, the drama, starring Casey Affleck, Dakota Johnson, and Jason Segel is readying for a debut quite soon.
Synopsis: After receiving life-altering news, a couple finds unexpected support from their best friend, who puts his own life on hold and moves into their family home, bringing an impact much greater and more profound than anyone could have imagined.
In my original review, I said that the film is ‘eloquently presented by Gabriela Cowperthwaite (director or Meagan Leavey and producer on the superb documentary Blackfish) and her team. Brad Ingelsby’s script is both sympathetic and full of compassion and I was completely and utterly caught up in it, even if it felt a little manipulative in places. The Friend was a delightful surprise, one that I expected to walk away from completely devastated by. The opposite happened. It’s a great piece of work.’
Our Friend will debut Stateside on January 22, 2021, through Gravitas Ventures, and we’re expecting other territories to follow. Here’s the trailer.
