So, a new year is upon us. Despite 2020 closing most cinemas all over the world, there were tons of great movies on offer, even if we had to watch most of them at home. 2021 should be very different with films that were due to arrive on screens last year, heading to the multiplexes in the coming months. In this article, we list five movies we’re looking forward to seeing in 2021.
Coming 2 America
Here’s the first film on our list, and one of the first ones to get a release into the world. It doesn’t appear that the highly anticipated sequel to the 1980s comedy starring Eddie Murphy will have to worry about cinemas being re-open as Coming 2 America is slated for a release on the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform in early March. This one sees Murphy return to the role of Prince Azeem who must return to America with loyal pal Semmi (Arsenio Hall) to search and build a relationship with his son. Also amongst the cast of the new one are the likes of Wesley Snipes, Lesley Jones, a returning James Earl Jones and Tracy Morgan. It will come to Amazon on 5th March.
No Time To Die
This had to be high on our list. The 25th James Bond film, and the fifth to be led by Daniel Craig, has been delayed twice already due to the global pandemic, but it should see the light of day in 2021. Currently slated for a debuted in April (though that still might change), No Time To Die sees 007 face up to a new villain in the form of Rami Malek’s Safin. There’s also a reported return of Christoph Waltz as SPECTRE bad guy Blofeld, and also Ralph Fiennes as M, Ben Whishaw as Q and Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny. In the film, Bond has reportedly left Mi6, but his friend Felix Leiter from the CIA, pulls him back into service to help him find a missing scientist.
The Card Counter
If gambling’s your thing then how about this new original film which will be brought to the screen by legendary filmmaker Paul Schrader. Not too much is known as to when exactly this will arrive on the screen, but it’s up there with our most anticipated because of Schrader and it’s cracking cast. Oscar Issac, Willem Dafoe, Tye Sheridan, and Tiffany Haddish are amongst those listed to star. This one looks likely to take place in the gambling world, not online – you can bet in Uganda here and pretty much every country on the planet – byt Schrader’s film takes place on the road to the World Series Of Poker with Isaac playing the role of gambler William Tell, who takes young man Cirk (Sheridan) under his wing trying to stop him from taking out revenge on a mysterious figure from both of their pasts.
The Many Saints Of Newark
The Many Saints Of Newark may not be a title you’re familiar with, but when I say that this is a feature-length movie that looks at events before The Sopranos then I may pique your interest. The action takes place way before any of the happenings from the iconic HBO series, and focuses on the formative years of lead character Tony Soprano, here played by Michael Gandolfini, the son of the late, great James Gandolfini who portrayed the character in the original series. Not much more is known about the prequel, but we’ll keep you informed of any developments, including a definitive release date. All we know at the moment is that it will release sometime in 2021.
A Quiet Place Part II
A shift of genre now and to horror-suspense for this highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 break-out sleeper. Again, this has been delayed and delayed and was originally set to be released onto cinema screens in March of 2020. The pandemic put stop to that and now the film will be debuted onto the big screen by Paramount Pictures in 2021. Reteaming principal cast members Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe, A Quiet Place Part II will also bring Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou to proceedings. We’ve already seen a trailer for the movie, and it looks every bit as epic and scary as the first outing which took a huge $340 million from around the world. The new release date for A Quiet Place Part II is April, but again, that could change. We’ll keep you posted.
