Applauded genre film ‘The Columnist’ sets March release

One of the best films to come out of FrightFest.

We’ve been told that one of our absolute faves from last year’s FrightFest is set to release on screens in March. The Columnist is to provoke debate around the prescient topic of social media’s impact on basic civility. It’s described as Death Wish for the online generation, and you’ll be cheering as Herbers gets the next foul-mouthed victim in her sights. The film will be released in cinemas and on digital platforms, courtesy of Vertigo Releasing, on 12th March in the UK and Ireland.

Here’s the synopsis: Newspaper columnist and author Femke Boot is suffering from writers’ block, and her mood isn’t improved by the torrent of abuse and death threats she receives daily on social media. When she discovers that her obnoxious, loud neighbour is one of the anonymous people posting vile comments, she snaps and takes matters into her own hands. As she finds herself able to write again, she sets out on a mission – track down the trolls and deliver some swift, polite and deadly vengeance.

In our review back in August, we said that the film is ‘a truly modern take on a very relevant topic. Held together by a stellar performance from Katja Kerbers, and some clever tonal shifts from its director, this is one film that’s sure to get you talking.’ Check out the full review at the end of the link.

We hope to have a new trailer soon. More as it comes in.
