Festival favourite Violation, a film that was part of the official selection at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and the forthcoming SXSW festival following a world premiere at last year’s TIFF, is set to stream on Shudder in March, according to an official press release we’ve just seen. Madeleine Sims-Fewer (Operation Avalanche), Jesse LaVercombe (American Gods), Anna Maguire (The Hummingbird Project) and Obi Abili (21 Bridges) are amongst the cast and we have the brand new Violation trailer for your viewing pleasure below.
Violation is a turbulent feminist revenge fable that explores the idea of trauma within families and untangles a sticky web of resentment as a troubled woman on the edge of divorce embarks on a vicious crusade when her sister and brother-in-law betray her trust. Highly focused on a naturalistic performance style and visual aesthetic, directors Madeleine Sims-Fewer and Dusty Mancinelli’s work explores gender politics, selfishness, and abuse of power, and is cinema at its most provocative.
With her marriage about to implode, Miriam (Madeleine Sims-Fewer) returns to her hometown to seek solace in the comfort of her younger sister and brother-in-law. But one evening a tiny slip in judgement leads to a catastrophic betrayal, leaving Miriam shocked, reeling, and furious. Believing her only recourse is to exact revenge Miriam takes extreme action, but the price of retribution is high, and she is not prepared for the toll it takes as she begins to emotionally and psychologically unravel.
The word on the street for this one is good, most of the positive reviews praising the central cast, particularly Sims-Fewer who was a recipient of the TIFF Rising Star Award last year. I can’t wait to it.
Violation is currently scheduled to be available on Shudder from 2th March. Here’s that awesome new Violation trailer.
