‘Hellraiser: Judgment’ director Gary J. Tunnicliffe discusses his love for all things Clive Barker

The world of the Cenobites began in Clive Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart. Not content to keep these demons (angels to some) contained within the pages of his book, Barker brought them to the film world in the fantastic Hellraiser. Audiences loved the dark bloody sensuality and an entire series of films was born. The latest film, Hellraiser: Judgment, is the tenth entry and finally gets a digital, Blu-ray and DVD release in the UK this month.

Hellraiser: Judgment is written and directed by Gary J. Tunnicliffe, a man who has a long history with Barker’s world. Tunnicliffe began his career in industry within the area of make-up effects and has over the years worked on films that include My Bloody Valentine 3D, Scream 4, and Halloween Resurrection. However, Tunnicliffe’s heart lies with all things Clive Barker, and he’s been involved in some capacity or another since Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth. In 2004 he funded and made his own fan film, No More Souls in which an ageing Pinhead lamented the state of the world. This project served as a proof of concept for his ability to breathe life into the Cenobite lore and eventually led to him leading Hellraiser Judgment

Ahead of Hellraiser: Judgment’s release, we caught up with Tunnicliffe to discuss his epic love affair with all things Barker.

Hellraiser: Judgment and Hellraiser: Revelations are on Digital 22nd February and on Blu-ray and DVD 1st March.
