Interview: Jill Gevargizian delves into debut feature film ‘The Stylist’

Now streaming on Arrow.

Originally starting life as a short film, The Stylist has been given the feature-length treatment by filmmaker Jill Gevargizian. The film has been on the film circuit for the last few months and proved popular at October’s FrightFest event; it now arrives exclusively on the Arrow Player. It tells the story of Claire, played by Najarro Townsend, a quiet young woman who works as a hairstylist. She’s also battling some inner demons and harbours a dark secret – she occasionally murders some of her clients. After a last minute call from a desperate long-term client, Olivia (Brea Grant), Claire finds herself agreeing to do Olivia’s hair for her upcoming wedding. As the two begin to bond, Claire starts to fixate upon Olivia and quickly finds herself frantically trying to curb her usual impulses.

Also known as Jill Sixx, Jill Gevargizian has steadily been building a name for herself in the short film arena, but with The Stylist she makes a bold debut into the world of features. Having initially birthed the short back in 2016, Gevargizian has clearly poured a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into expanding the story out to feature-length. We caught The Stylist back at its FrightFest debut and were instantly seduced by its dark heart. With The Stylist being such a unique and articulate crafted film, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to delve into the project further with director and co-writer Jill Gevargizian.

The Stylist  is premiering exclusively on ARROW in the UK, US, and Canada via www.ARROW-Player.com from 1st March 2021.
