Oscar-winning actor Helen Mirren has been cast in the key villain role in the forthcoming Shazam! sequel over at Warner Bros. Mirren will play the character of Hespera in the film, titled Shazam: Fury of the Gods, according to Deadline.
David F. Sandberg is directing the while Henry Gayden wrote the screenplay. Zachary Levi will return as the superhero title character while Rachel Zelger has also joined the cast, reportedly playing Hespera’s sister.
I loved the Shazam! movie – kind of like Superman meets Big kind of feel, and it worked really well. Audiences lapped it up as well with a massive haul of $366 million from a reported budget of just over $60 million. There’s a bit of wait for the sequel, but WB has already given it a release date of mid-June 2023.
