Adam Wingard to direct the ‘Thundercats’ movie

Based on the classic 1980s TV series.

Fresh off his success with this week’s big release Godzilla V. Kong, which is released by Warner Bros. around the world on Wednesday, Adam Wingard is reportedly set top direct a Thundercats movie. Deadline reports that the filmmaker will tackle the new film, which is based on the popular 1980s animated TV series.

The series, which was created by Tobin “Ted” Wolf, revolved around cat-like humanoid aliens who inhabited the planet, Thundera. The series ran from 1985 to 1989 and achieved cult status. It is still loved by fans all over the world today, and a Thundercats movie has been in the offing for quite some time.

David Coggeshall wrote the screenplay for the planned movie, but Wingard will rewrite the script with Simon Barret, so reports the trade.

Wingard is also involved with a sequel to Face/ Off, which is currently in development over at Paramount Pictures.
