Prano Bailey-Bond’s impressive ‘Censor’ sets release date

The film has already played the Sundance and Berlin film festivals this year.

After premiering at Sundance and then at March’s Berlinale, Prano Bailey-Bond’s horror feature Censor has been given a release date. The film will land in UK and Irish cinemas through Vertigo Releasing on 2nd July. Niamh Algar (Calm with Horses, Raised by Wolves) leads the cast.

Britain, 1985. When film censor Enid discovers an eerie horror that speaks directly to her sister’s mysterious disappearance, she resolves to unravel the puzzle behind the film and its enigmatic director – a quest that will blur the lines between fiction and reality in terrifying ways. Steeped in glorious 1980s aesthetics, CENSOR is a bloody love letter to the VHS ‘video nasty’ horror classics of the past.

The film also stars Nicholas Burns (Ghost Stories, Nathan Barley), Vincent Franklin (Gentleman Jack, Bodyguard), Sophia La Porta (Hulu’s Four Weddings and a Funeral, Been So Long), Adrian Schiller (Victoria, The Last Kingdom) and Michael Smiley (Jawbone, Kill List).

I loved this movie, despite being not a particularly huge fan of horror. An 80-odd-minute British ‘video nasty’ rammed full of nostalgia, shocks, and buckets of blood. You can read my full review of the film from Berlin here.

More as it comes in.
