Three Of Our Favourite Rihanna Movies So Far

From Battleship to Guava Island

Rihanna is such a joy to listen to; from power ballads to hard dance anthems, it’s in no doubt that she is the absolute queen of the music scene, but did you know she’s also been in movies? From the likes of Ocean’s 8, a spin-off from the George Clooney-led movies which may have ended by seeing the writers come up with a similar scenario – like a crew take on Australian online casino slots or something – but was actually set in New York – and then the big-budget action movie Battleship – she’s already carving herself out quite the acting career. Here are three stand-outs.

Ocean’s 8

As we said before, this is a more recent, female-led spin-off from the original franchise which takes the action away from Las Vegas. We expected that they may have focussed on a similar plotline to the original series – maybe the mobile gambling industry, for example, but this update sees Riri and her crew aim for jewelry at one of the most lavish parties in NYC. The star plays, Nineball, a hacker and IT specialist. Even though she might look a little hipster, Nineball is very smart and can literally hack into any computer system. All she needs is a keyboard and she is good to go. Rihanna stars alongside the likes of Sandra Bullock (as Debbie Ocean), Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, and more. It’s a decent enough movie and more than worth checking out.

Battleship

This is one of the first blockbusters that the singer got to take part in.  She gets to play a role alongside Brooklyn Decker, Taylor Kitsch, and Alexander Skarsgard with well-known action maestro Peter Berg behind the camera. The movie is based on a naval team that gets an unexpected battle with aliens while training in their occasional naval wars. She plays one of the support roles in the movie as Petty Officer Cora ‘Weps’ Raikes. Even though a lot of lives are lost, the Barbadian singer is one of the few who managed to stay throughout the movie. Oh, spoiler alert. Sorry.

Guava Island

Rihanna and Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover) make quite the perfect couple in this movie. Childish Gambino also gets to perform some of his hit songs, including Summer Time Magic (see above) and This is America. The musical is quite satirical and gets to address the socio-political issues that are taking part in world today in the most creative way possible. You can check it out on Amazon Prime Video.
