First teaser trailer lands for Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’

The film finally comes to cinemas in December.

The very first teaser trailer for the Steven Spielberg’s version of West Side Story has landed online on the morning after the Oscars. I expect we’ll be talking about this one this time next year as this looks awards-worthy – certainly judging from this first footage. I love the cinematography and the overall look of the movie (by frequent Spielberg collaborator Janusz Kaminski). Tony Kushner wrote the screenplay for the new version which lands in cinemas in December.

Ariana DeBose as Anita in 20th Century Studios’ WEST SIDE STORY.

The film tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City. This reimagining of the beloved musical stars Ansel Elgort (Tony); Rachel Zegler (María); Ariana DeBose (Anita); David Alvarez (Bernardo); Mike Faist (Riff); Josh Andrés Rivera (Chino); Ana Isabelle (Rosalía); Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank); Brian d’Arcy James (Officer Krupke); and Rita Moreno (as Valentina, who owns the corner store in which Tony works).

This one opens on 10th December, which is right in the middle of peak awards fodder. I hope this ends up as well as this first footage teases.

Check out the trailer below.
