Brock O’Hurn first stepped into the public arena after a series of his social media videos went viral. A native Californian, O’Hurn has been making a living as a fitness model and actor. He has appeared in several of Tyler Perry’s projects, including both Boo! A Madea Halloween movies, and has been steadily carving out a career within the comedy genre in supporting roles. Things are set to change now though as this week’s digital release, The Resort, has him shift into the horror genre, and sees him take up a more central role. He plays Chris, one of a quartet of friends who find themselves terrorised by the ominously named Half-Faced Girl in a deserted holiday resort.
Written and directed by Taylor Chien, the entire film was conceptualised, cast, and filmed, in just three months. The story follows a young woman, Lex (Bianca Haase), a writer who is about to begin work on her next book on the paranormal. The subject of her latest work is the eerily named ‘Half-Faced Girl’, a paranormal entity rumoured to have haunted a popular holiday resort on the island of Kilahuna. The building now stands empty with all visitation forbidden. Sensing her frustration about having to write about a place that she hasn’t experienced, Lex’s friends, Chris (Brock O’Hurn), Bree (Michelle Randolph), and Sam (Michael Vlamis), arrange a surprise tour of the area. It soon becomes clear however, that the warnings to steer clear are in place for very sensible reasons and the quartet find themselves face-to-half-face with the resort’s malevolent entity.
The move into the horror realm could be a very smart one for his future as pretty much every famous face going has starred in a horror film somewhere early on in their work. Ahead of the release we sat down with O’Hurn to discuss his future acting ambitions, his experience working on the film, and just why you should pick The Resort for your weekend scare.
The Resort will be released on digital and on demand from 30th April 2021. It will be available on Sky Store, Virgin, iTunes, Amazon, Microsoft Store, Google Play, and Chili.
