Interview: Dominic Monaghan discusses his new historical epic ‘Edge of the World’

Out this week on digital platforms.

Dominic Monaghan has worked solidly in the acting arena since his time as Hetty Wainthrope’s sidekick. From the sidecar he went on to star as hobbit Merry in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, a role that saw him catch Hollywood’s eye. He followed up his time in Middle Earth with a stint on Lost as everyone’s favourite drug-addicted former rock-star, Charlie. In the intervening years, Monaghan has presented a wildlife show and appeared in a startling amount of well-picked scripts. His most recent project, Edge of the World, is about to be released by Signature Entertainment.

Edge of the World is based upon the story of Sir James Brooke, a man who is thought to be the real-life inspiration behind Rudyard Kipling’s The Man Who Would be King. In it Monaghan stars as Arthur Crookshank, the confidant and friend of Jame Brooke, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, joining him on his epic journey from Englishman to the King of Sarawak.

Earlier this year, on Star Wars day no less, we were lucky enough to spend some time with Dominic Monaghan. In our chat we discussed what drew him to Edge of the World, why he loves exploring the wild, and how his life has changed since that double-whammy of Lord of the Rings and Lost.

Signature Entertainment presents Edge of the World on Digital Platforms 18th June and DVD 21st June.
