One of the better disaster movies of the last few years is getting a sequel. Greenland premiered earlier this and delighted audiences with a slightly different look at the genre. Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin led the cast of the movie and both return for the sequel. More below.
The first film revolved around a family who had to for survival as a planet-killing comet races to Earth.
John Garrity (Gerard Butler), his estranged wife Allison (Morena Baccarin), and young son Nathan make a perilous journey to their only hope for sanctuary. Amid terrifying news accounts of cities around the world being leveled by the comet’s fragments, the Garrity’s experience the best and worst in humanity. As the countdown to global apocalypse approaches zero, their incredible trek culminates in a desperate and last-minute flight to a possible safe haven.
Variety has some plot details for the film, which is titled Greenland: Migration: In a continuation of the story, the Garrity family, who survive a near-extinction level event when an interstellar comet hits Earth, must leave the safety of the Greenland bunker and embark on a perilous journey across the decimated frozen wasteland of Europe to find a new home.
Shooting is scheduled to take place in 2022 with director Ric Roman Waugh and writer Chris Sparling also coming back for more.
Greenland was released in the UK directly to Amazon Prime Video all of the way back in February. If you remember, this was at the peak of the last lockdown, so with the positive reviews and great word of mouth, the film got some decent numbers. It also scored a cinema released stateside where it also did really well.
We’ll have more updates on this as they come our way.
