Ewan McGregor to scale ‘Everest’ for new Doug Liman movie

The film reportedly starts shooting in 2022.

According to The Playlist, Ewan McGregor is set to lead the cast of a new Doug Liman helmed movie set on the legendary mountain Everest. The film is to be called Everest and will be set in the 1920s, just after the end of World War I.

Based on a true story, the film will see  George Mallory (Ewan McGregor) attempting to scale Mount Everest, facing off against rival George Finch, who are racing to reach the infamous peak of the mountain first. Mark Strong and Sam Heughan are also in the planned movie, playing the roles of Arthur Hinks and George Finch, respectively.

The film is set up at Hanway Films will production set to begin sometime in 2022.

Liman most recently directed pandemic heist movie Locked Down and sci-fi film Chaos Walking, both of which were released earlier this year. He also has a Tom Cruise-led space movie on the cards in the near future.
